The inevitable evolution of vSphere is upon us. vSphere was the foundation of enterprise IT architectures for many years. Broadcom is taking that foundation to the next level. Sit back and read about how VMware by Broadcom is repatriating data to the private cloud, stream-lining the VMware by Broadcom product library, and how they are automating not only the delivery of the modern private cloud but upgrades and patching as well.
VMware by Broadcom is repatriating data to the private cloud. Why? Data is a lot like money, no one cares more about mine than I do. Companies should be thinking the same way. The public cloud is great for DRaaS but, at the end of the day, you are relying on someone else’s computer. Which means you’re relying on their security controls, uptime, and ability to protect your business. Enter VMware Cloud Foundation 9. VMware by Broadcom has reimagined the full-stack private IaaS platform. This software defined world includes management, compute, storage, networking and security as well as an integrated automation platform for self-service VM and container deployment.
VMware under the Broadcom umbrella has stream-lined the VMware by Broadcom product library. In pre-acquisition times, VMware was sporting hundreds of different product SKUs from major product lines to specific editions. In the post-acquisition world, Perpetual licensing has gone by way of the Dodo. Subscription based licensing is in and has consolidated the core vSphere suite of products we all love under one VMware Cloud Foundation license. They do have add-ons for your subscription license; vDefend, AVI, and Live Recovery to name a few. This new file based licensing model streamlines license management and is a lot easier to digest than twenty different “License 1” keys.
VMware Cloud Foundation 9 automates not only the delivery of the modern private cloud but upgrades and patching as well. Orchestrated workflows allow for Day 0, Day 1, and Day 2 tasks to simplify deployment and patching of the modern private cloud. It becomes possible to coordinate upgrades across multiple VCF instances with Fleet Upgrade Orchestration. This enforces specific upgrade sequences which in turn reduces maintenance windows. These workflows are a great way to deliver consistent VCF fleets and keep your VCF instances in lockstep.
This is the first post in a series of many. Come along and sail on this fantastic private cloud voyage as we explore the deployments and configurations of the components of VMware Cloud Foundation 9. Follow along as I build experience points on my journey to “Broadcom Knighthood”. If you have made it this far, you can see the light shining on the private cloud landscape. As you have read, VMware by Broadcom is repatriating data to the private cloud, stream-lining the VMware by Broadcom product library, and automating not only the delivery of the modern private cloud but upgrading and patching as well.
